Former Deaf School Worker Accused Of Sexually Abusing Boys
54-year-old David Bateman of Faribault has been accused of repeatedly molesting two young boys.
Bateman was charged by the state with 36 felony counts of criminal sexual conduct against a minor by someone in a position of authority. 14 counts were filed on August 8th in Carver County and the other 22 were filed this past week in Rice County.
According to the Faribault Daily News, Bateman began sexually abusing the boys around 2003, when they were nine and ten years old.
The victims have said that the acts happened when Bateman would babysit them, and when he was employed as a dorm supervisor, paraprofessional, and host by the Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf between 2004 and 2012.
The alleged acts occurred at various locations in Minnesota and in other states. The boys have claimed that the abuse happened multiple times a year and included digital penetration and oral sex.
Bateman is scheduled to appear in Rice County Court on October 4th. He currently is being held in Carver County, where he has been since August 3rd, on $500,000 bail.
