If You Stayed At These Hotels, Your Data May Have Been Hacked
As someone who's stayed at these hotels several times over the past few years, it was not fun to wake up to this news: 500 million Marriott customers have had their data hacked after staying at hotels like W, Sheraton, and Westin.
The data breach has apparently been going on since 2014, as hackers gained access to the Starwood hotel database, which is currently owned by Marriott. So if you've stayed at any of those hotels, your info might be at risk. That includes your name, mailing address, phone number, email, passport number, date of birth, gender, and credit card details. Yikes. These are the hotels that have been affected by the data breach:
- W Hotels
- St. Regis
- Sheraton Hotels & Resorts
- Westin Hotels & Resorts
- Element Hotels
- Aloft Hotels
- The Luxury Collection
- Tribute Portfolio
- Le Meridien Hotels & Resort
- Four Points by Sheraton
- Design Hotels
That's a huge violation of privacy, and not good news if you've stayed at any of those hotels over the past 4 years. The company and investigators are currently looking into the matter, but in the meantime, you may want to consider getting a new credit card(s) and changing up some passwords.
