Faribault is home to a state correctional institute, one that is both medium security and minimum security, and houses 2,000 adult males. Which according to the Minnesota State Corrections website makes it the largest correctional facility in the state. It's also a pretty big employer too. So for all the work they put in, and the dangers of the job they deal with we wanted to salute those that work in that field during National Corrections' Officer and Employee Week. We also salute those who work in county jails throughout SE Minnesota.

Since 1984, each year, the first full week in May has been recognized as National Correctional Officers and Employees Week, commemorating the contributions of correctional officers and personnel who work in jails, prisons, and community corrections across the country.

While I don't pretend to have any clue as to what goes on in the average day of a CO or employee at an institution I did locate a website that highlights the job. According to the NCJRS.gov website "One of the greatest threats to correctional officer wellness involves the stress they encounter daily." Employees and CO's "must maintain a constant state of heightened vigilance and adhere to strict security protocols" throughout the workday.

Being always on has to be tough, plus we have had fatal incidents between inmates and CO's in the recent past that put what you do into perspective. Thanks for working to keep our communities safe!
