Charges: 58-Year-Old Man Held Woman Hostage at Knife Point at Eyota Home

Eyota, MN (KROC-AM News)- A southeast Minnesota man is facing multiple charges for allegedly holding a woman hostage at a home in Olmsted County.

That’s according to a criminal complaint filed in Olmsted County Court on Tuesday. 

The court document says the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a domestic incident occurring at a home in Eyota shortly after 4:00 Friday afternoon.

Responding deputies heard the victim’s voice through the two-way speaker on the home’s Ring doorbell camera when they arrived. 

She indicated that 58-year-old Daniel Scott Adams of Eyota had a knife and was holding hostage, the complaint says.

The deputies went into the residence and spotted Adams at the top of the stairs. 

He eventually came out of the home but did not follow commands prompting a struggle. Deputies tased Adams twice to bring him into custody, according to the court document. 

Alleged Conduct Prior to Law Enforcement Arrival

The charges say Adams took a long knife from the kitchen after he and the victim got into an argument and the victim tried to leave the home. He’s accused of preventing her from leaving the residence and also using the knife to threaten another victim in the home. 

In a statement to law enforcement, Adams admitted to holding the knife while arguing with the victim but denied confining her to the home, the complaint says. 

Adams is charged with felony false imprisonment, two counts of terroristic threats and misdemeanor domestic assault. 

His conditional bail was set at $20,000 following his first court appearance on Tuesday. He’s due back in court later this month.
