Cannon Falls Mayor John Althoff told KDHL listeners during the Cannon Falls Area News Wednesday the City Council approved a bid to tear down the old Lee Chevrolet Body Shop building.  The Cannon Falls Mayor says the work should be done in mid-September.

Althoff added the Council approved a resolution to Goodhue County requesting the tax forfeited property of the old Cannonball Restaurant site be witheld from public auction for six months for possible conveyance to the City of Cannon Falls.

Althoff says the city, "Is interested in possibly obtaining the site and developing it for the south side of Cannon Falls."

He added, "We supported a grant application to Blue Cross Blue Shield to fund a bicycle master plan for Cannon Falls."

The City Council also approved cable studio upgrades and the hiring of a PEG Access Technician.

Following the meeting the Council held a budget work session going over budget requests from the Police Department, Library and Ambulance Departments.

With a lot of work left the Cannon Falls Mayor added, "The preliminary tax levy increase is 6 percent."  He noted once the city sets their levy they can't go any higher so that's why they tend to set the preliminary levy high and typically come down for the final levy.
