The 17 additional COVID-19 deaths reported today by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) brought the totals above seasonal flu deaths.  According to the MDH website there were 148 seasonal flu deaths (through April 11) compared with 160 COVID-19 deaths.

Total hospitalizations for COVID-19 to date are 629 since January 20, 2020.  Just since January there have been 4,085 seasonal flu hospitalizations in Minnesota.  There have been 109 total long term care facility seasonal flu outbreaks and 921 school outbreaks this flu season.

Hennepin County led the state with 161 school outbreaks and 21 long term care facility outbreaks.  Ramsey County reported 86 school, 7 long term care outbreaks.

Rice County had 9 school, 2 long term care facility outbreaks.  Steele County 4 school and 0 long term care.  Dakota 63 schools, 4 long term care.  Goodhue 5 schools, 2 long term care. Waseca 2 schools, 2 long term care. Le Sueur 8 schools, 0 long term care. Scott 24 schools, 3 long term care.  Dodge 0 schools and long term care outbreaks.

Olmsted 47 schools, 6 long term care, Wabasha 2 schools, 2 long term care.

Nine counties in Minnesota have had no reported positive cases of COVID-19.  That does not mean they have not had any cases of the virus, it just means no positive tests have been reported from the county.

Those counties are:

  • Cook
  • Lake of The Woods
  • Lake
  • Grant
  • Pope
  • Stevens
  • Wadena
  • Hubbard
  • Kanabec

An additional 18 of Minnesota's 87 counties have had 1 COVID-19 positive reported.

4 of the last 5 days MDH has reported double digit deaths from COVID-19 showing deaths are on the rise.  Over the last 5 days there have been 66 COVID-19 deaths reported in Minnesota.
