MnDOT To Send Out Winter Driving Alerts
If you are like me, Winter driving can really ramp up your stress levels. Since i commute over 300 miles every weekend, winter can be an extra stressful time and I've certainly had my share of white knuckle commutes over the years.
The good news is, Minnesota Dept of Transportation will now send out Winter driving alerts via text message or email. According to a Minnesota Dept of Transportation press release, the winter driving alerts will inform travelers of things like ice on the roads, drifting snow conditions, weather related crashes and any visibility issues that may make your winter trip a "white knuckle" adventure.
“Motorists want information to help them make smart driving decisions,” said Mike Dougherty, MnDOT a director of public engagement and communications. “People can choose to sign up for the alerts either via text message or email, which gives them another option from MnDOT to be safe on the roads.”
If there is any significant weather conditions that may affect your travels, alerts will be sent out to travelers. The alerts will cover all state and interstate highways in Minnesota.
If you are as pumped about this as I am, you can sign up at the MnDOT website https://new.511mn.org. MnDOT will also post conditions on social media, using the hashtag #SEMNwinter.
Safe travels.
