The Minnesota Wild finally locked down the Winter Classic.

Announced during the intermission of the 2020 Winter Classic at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, the Minnesota Wild, Minnesota Twins, and Sports Minneapolis worked together to earn the bid for the 2021 Winter Classic, according to the Wild's Twitter account.

According to the Team's website, the Wild will host the game at Target Field on New Year's Day, 2021. It is the first time the Wild will host the Winter Classic and the second outdoor game in the team's history.

The NHL's commissioner is thrilled to bring the game to Minnesota. Here is what he told the team's website.

"The Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic is about taking hockey back to its outdoor roots - and there is no better place to celebrate the incredible strength surrounding our game than in Minnesota," said NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman. "The Minnesota Wild organization and their fans in the Twin Cities and across the state have been anxiously awaiting the opportunity to host the NHL's New Year's showcase and we are thrilled to be bringing next year's game to Target Field."

The Minnesota Wild teamed up with the Minnesota Twins to get the Winter Classic to come to Minnesota, and Target Field has already proven to be a premier sporting and entertainment venue, and the Twins are thrilled to partner with the NHL and the Wild to get the Winter Classic to Minnesota, again from the Wild's website.

"The Minnesota Twins are absolutely thrilled to partner with the National Hockey League and the Minnesota Wild to bring the 2021 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic to Target Field," Twins President & CEO Dave St. Peter said. "Understanding previous Winter Classic venues, hosting the NHL's annual New Year's Day showcase is an incredible honor for our organization and our community. We can't imagine a better Winter Classic setting than the one the State of Hockey will deliver at Target Field on January 1, 2021."
