Rice County Arbor Day Tree Giveaway

It was nice to get the news release that there will be a Rice County Arbor Day Tree Give Away after it was canceled last year. In the past it has been at two or three locations in Rice County but this year it will only be at the Rice County Fairgrounds as a drive through under the carport between the 4-H Building and the grandstand. The Rice County Master Gardeners will be there to give you your tree or shrub without leaving your car. They can also give you advice on how to plant and care for the seedlings.

The Arbor Tree Give Away was started by the Rice County Forestry Committee. They own a tree planter that they rent for larger tree and shrub planting projects. The dollars  are put into a fund to pay for maintenance and replacement of the tree planter. Excess funds are used to buy the tree and shrub seedlings for the Rice County Arbor Day Tree Give Away on Arbor Day.

The species available include Maple, bur oak, nannyberry, and red twig dogwood. The Rice County Arbor Day Rice County Tree Give Away will be on Arbor Day April 30, 2021 on the Rice County Fair Grounds from 3:30 to 5:30 pm.
