Sausage Recall Affects A Variety Of Frozen Pizza Brands Listeria contamination is the concern.  Approximately 25,115 pounds of sausage made by the Ezzo Sausage Company from Columbus, Ohio is involved in the recall efforts.

The ready-to-eat sausage products were produced on October 29, 2019, October 30, 2019 and November 5, 2019.  The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 1838A” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to distribution centers in Indiana and Ohio.

Accelerating the issue is the fact that the sausage is used as an ingredient in a variety of different frozen pizzas, sold under a variety of brand names.  The list includes:

• Ezzo Brand Burretto Pizza
• Creno's Pizza
• Flyer's Pizza & Subs
• Giantonio Brand
• Joseppi's
• Massey's
• Pizza King/Mr. Pizza Inc
• Pizza King/Pizza King, Inc

According to the United States Department of Agriculture, the symptoms of Listeria are easy to observe.

Listeriosis can cause fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms. An invasive infection spreads beyond the gastrointestinal tract. In pregnant women, the infection can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery or life-threatening infection of the newborn. In addition, serious and sometimes fatal infections in older adults and persons with weakened immune systems. Listeriosis is treated with antibiotics. Persons in the higher-risk categories who experience flu-like symptoms within two months after eating contaminated food should seek medical care and tell the health care provider about eating the contaminated food.
