Victim of NW Minnesota Tornado Identified
Dalton, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Sheriff in Otter Tail County today released the name of the man who was killed when two tornadoes touched down in an area south of Fergus Falls Wednesday evening.
Sheriff Barry Fitzgibbons identified the victim as 30-year-old Seth Nelson of rural Battle Lake. Earlier reports indicated he was working in a shop on a rural property east of Dalton when the tornado caused the building to collapse on him. The Sheriff says two other people were hurt by the tornadoes and were transported to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
The tornadoes struck around 5:30 p.m. and were on the ground for 6 to 9 miles before dissipating. Sheriff Fitzgibbons says at least seven homes and outbuildings were damaged or destroyed by the twisters.
A preliminary assessment by the National Weather Service rated the tornado that caused the fatality as at least an EF-3 twister with winds between 136 and 165 miles per hour.
