Whenever it's autumn in Minnesota, you can bet your sweet gourd that it's easy to find pumpkin-flavored anything wherever you go. From pumpkin spice lattes to even pumpkin-flavored SPAM, people are definitely getting into the season.

But right now, let's talk about ...

Pumpkin BEER!

According to Beer Advocate, the most popular brand of locally crafted pumpkin beer in Minnesota is...

Hail to the Dark Gourd from HammerHeart Brewing Company.

HammerHeart is based out of Lino Lakes (about an hour and a half drive from Rochester). I actually haven't even heard of the beer, nor the brewery, but this makes me want to check it out. The brewery lists Hail to the Dark Gourd as "an Imperial pumpkin stout at 9.5% ABV.

Here's how one reviewer on Beer Advocate describes Hail to the Dark Gourd:

Taste: Like it smells, a nicely boozy and sweet taste with big notes of rum, bourbon, and pumpkin spice. Big barrel presence with notes of rum, bourbon whiskey, vanilla, oak, and wood. Some nice notes of pumpkin along with spice notes of cinnamon, clove, and allspice. Some notes of smoke. Malt notes of wheat, caramel, grains, and biscuit along with yeast. A very good taste.

I definitely need to check this out! For a list of where you can find HammerHeart beer, go here.
