Have an old computer or monitor that no longer works sitting around, but you're unsure what to do with it? The Faribault Chamber of Commerce is hosting a computer recycling day!

You recycle your soda cans, old news papers and milk cartons, but what about computers? Electronic waste can be bad for the environment as well; they can leak materials such as mercury, lead and cadmium into the soil and groundwater. To prevent that, don't throw away old computer mice, keyboards, monitors and laptops, recycle them instead! Copper, plastic and other materials can be pulled from the old equipment and recycled.

The Faribault Chamber of Commerce will be accepting computer equipment, in the Chamber parking lot, for recycling on Friday, June 12, from 10AM to 4PM. Most items can be dropped off free of charge, but CTR monitors will be accepted with a $5 fee. Although other safety precautions will be used, it is advised that you remove all sensitive data before dropping computers off.
