Kenyon-Wanamingo junior hitter Mara Quam looked locked in Thursday night in a sweep of the New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva Panthers in the South Subsection championship game at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Quam collected 11 kills in the first set in a 25-18, 25-7, 25-12 win. She finished the night, according to my unofficial Baker and Axelson CPAs of Wanamingo statistics, with 17 kills.

The Knights played the best match I've seen since Stewartville when they defeated the defending state champs in Stewartville's gym in a five-set thriller.

The passing was impressive, setting superb and serving very aggressive in a new venue.

Kenyon-Wanamingo had never played at Minnesota State and the bright ceiling lights didn't seem to affect the match. I had the Knights with seven ace serves and just two errors.

Junior setter Mia Peterson had four aces, junior middle hitter Megan Flom two and sophomore Sydney Way one, according to my unofficial statistics.

Our Held Bus Service of Kenyon Knights of the match were Mara Quam, junior libero Kasey Dummer, Megan Flom and setters senior Siri Quam and Mia Peterson.

The North Subsection championship went to Belle Plaine. The top-rated team in the state beat the Jordan Jaguars 25-21, 29-27 and 25-21.

The Tigers jumped out to big leads in each of the sets and Jordan fought back in each during the match.

Belle Plaine is super aggressive on their serves and Kenyon-Wanamingo will need to serve-receive well.

The Knights will need their A game for sure in the section title tilt at Minnesota State Saturday night.

Coverage on KDHL Radio 920AM will begin about 15 minutes after the conclusion of the Class A title match between Waterville-Elysian-Morristown and Mayer Lutheran.
