NRHEG Baseball and Softball Keep Seasons Alive

The NRHEG baseball and softball teams won games Saturday to keep their seasons alive. It's been a 'road warrior' and Cinderella-run for the baseball club. As the No. 12 seed, the Panthers have played four road games, winning three of them. On Saturday they knocked out Blue Earth Area 5-2. Kordell Schlaak pitched all seven innings. Riley Schultz made multiple diving catches in right fieid.

NRHEG plays No. 4 seed Sibley East Monday, June 7 in Gaylord at 5 pm with a game against No. 6 Cannon Falls to follow for the winner. The Panthers lost to Sibley East 8-0 in the quarterfinals. Victories have come over No. 5 Minnesota Valley Lutheran 7-3 and No. 8 Medford 4-0, in addition to Saturday's triumph over Blue Earth Area.

The playoff run for the No. 4 seed Panther softball team started with home wins over No. 13 Blue Earth Area 11-0 and No. 5 Cannon Falls 4-3 in a walk-off. On Saturday, NRHEG faced top-rated and No. 1 seed LeSueur-Henderson and stuck close through five innings before falling 11-0.

NRHEG bounced back with a 7-1 win over No. 7 Maple River. The Panthers play No. 2 Lake Crystal-Welcome Memorial Tuesday, June 8 at 5 pm at Caswell Park in North Mankato. The winner faces No. 3 Belle Plaine afterward.

Blooming Prairie's softball season ended Saturday at Todd Park in Austin. The Awesome Blossoms beat United South Central 13-3 in six innings in an elimination game. BP then lost 2-0 to Hayfield. Seniors on the team include Allison Krohnberg and Maren Forystek.

Triton baseball extended their season by a game Saturday in Pine Island with a 5-4 win over Goodhue, their third win of the spring against the Wildcats. Pine Island ended the Cobras' season in the next game 30-9.

Triton softball lost 10-8 to Stewartville Saturday, ending their season.

In Section 1AAAA baseball, top-seed Farmington whipped Rochester Mayo 10-1 to reach the section final. New Prague beat Century 9-3 in a losers' bracket game. Mayo then edged New Prague 6-5. The Spartans would need to beat Farmington twice on Wednesday, June 9 in New Prague to reach the state tournament.
