At last night's City Council meeting in Albert Lea, Owatonna-based Mohs Contracting won the bid to build a new fire station. There were a total of 10 bids submitted for the projected 9-million dollar project and future fire station.

According to KAAL-TV the Albert Lea city council unanimously chose Mohs Contracting. Mohs's bid was the lowest after Albert Lea officials decided to removed solar panels on the building. The final projected bid then came in at $7,966,000.

Albert Lea officials are hoping that Mohs will be able to begin demolition yet this winter, as the site selected earlier this year is a residential one and will need to have homes and buildings removed before they can begin grading the site for construction.

The project is also expected to partner with other local entities like Wells Concrete for components of the new fire station.
