Bethlehem Academy Golfer in Top 20 for 3rd Straight Year at State
Faribault Bethlehem Academy senior Khrystjan Petersen ended his high school career today not in the fashion he envisioned heading into the MSHSL State Class A boys golf tournament. Petersen carded a tournament total 22 over par after posting a +16 on the final day of the tournament at Pebble Creek in Becker.
Last season Petersen finished second by a stroke. His sophomore season he was 7th. His freshman year in the top 25. There are a lot of high school golfers in the state who would love to finish in the top 20 three straight years and top 25 four straight years.
The previous three trips Petersen went by himself to participate. This year the rest of the team qualified by winning the Section 1 Class A Tournament. During the Faribault Coaches Show at KFC last Saturday Petersen was looking forward to having his teammates with him. He is the only senior on the team.
The other members of the team also had difficult times on the course.
- Brody Pavel Sophomore 64th tie +44
- Braden Larson 7th 67th +46
- Willie Potter 7th 72nd tie +52
- Elliot Smith Sophomore 76th +54
- Ben Cohen Junior 84th +67
There were a total of 87 competitors. The Cardinal team finished 7th out of the 8 teams in the state that qualified as teams to compete. Community Christian of Willmar won the team title with an overall +79. Three strokes better than Springfield and 21 shots ahead of Fertile-Beltrami.
Community Christian of Willmar sophomore Brett Reid earned medalist honors while carding a 1 over par for the 36 hole tournament.
