It's a very rare event that I go out at all, especially after 9:30 pm, and I am almost never out on Friday nights. I am usually right here in the KRFO studio doing my thing by 6 am on Saturday mornings, so unless I want to be tired, very tired, my butt is in bed by 10. Last night was a special occasion though, it was Hogfest, and there was a karaoke contest to watch, and yes, judge.

My friend, Ryan Thompson, owns and operates Lightning Audio & Sound, the DJ used for the Karaoke contest last night. The cost to get entered was $10, and the more entries there were, the bigger the pot at the end. Cash prizes were handed out. There were 10 paid entries, and a few who sang "just for fun." We heard everything, hard rock, oldies, country, even some rap and a boy band.

We had a blast watching all of the singers and were amazed by one 4-year old little girl who sang, with a little help, a song I would never be able to sing. But, I won't sing like that, there isn't enough alcohol in MN to get me to do Karaoke.

The winner of the whole contest was a man who sang "Ice Ice Baby" by Vanilla Ice, without once having to look at the words, and was on key the whole time. He then sang "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong and nailed it completely. We even had a singer who said at the beginning of his song, that he was paid to get up there and sing. The energy was great, and Mother Nature held off the hard rain until after the contest was over.

10/10 I would be a judge again, this was a lot of fun, and I'm willing to give up some sleep to enjoy amateurs singing, especially since I won't on a stage.
