The Kasson-Mantorville Komets and Kenyon-Wanamingo Knights entertained a good crowd in the Castle in Kenyon Tuesday night to some very good volleyball.  There were some long volleys in the match which Kasson-Mantorville captured 3-1.  Scores were 25-23 K-M, 25-22 K-W, 25-22 K-M and 25-17 K-M.  Kasson-Mantorville's defense was the difference.  5'4 senior libero Bailey Berge leading the Komets in that phase of the game.

6'0 senior Peyton Suess is heading to Wake Forest on a volleyball scholarship and finished the night with 16 kills to lead her Kasson-Mantorville team. The first couple of sets Suess didn't appear to be on her game with three kills and four errors in the first set and just four kills in the second set.  Suess came alive in the important third set with 6 kills and as the night progressed she was also better defensively.  5'10 junior middle hitter for the Komets Emilee Terry tallied 10 kills and also helped dig a number of balls.

5'6  senior Caroline Braun had 6 kills and 6'0 sophomore Mya Suess 5 kills for Kasson-Mantorville.  My unofficial count had the Komets with 20 errors on the night and Kenyon-Wanamingo 28 mistakes.

The Knights had a chance to win the first set.  They were up 23-21, but a service error and couple of hitting errors didn't help their cause.  Kenyon-Wanamingo finished the first set with nine errors and Kasson-Mantorville had 6 errors.

The Knights jumped out to a big lead in the second set and lost the lead a couple of times before gaining the win.  5'7 junior outside hitter Ally Peterson had 9 of her 28 kills in the victorious second set.  Peterson accumulated 7 kills in the first set, 5 in the third and 7 in the fourth set.

Set four Kasson-Mantorville took control early. The Komets had just two errors in the final set of the evening and the Knights 8 errors.

Kenyon-Wanamingo junior Julianna Boyum finished the night with 13 kills and five ace blocks.  Joining Peterson and Boyum as Held Bus Service of Kenyon Knights of the match were senior libero and Homecoming Queen Kassandra Keller with 24 digs and junior setters Madi Luebke and Riley Dummer with 29 and 11 set assists.

Kasson-Mantorville is now 4-0 in the Hiawatha Valley League and 15-2 overall and Kenyon-Wanamingo 3-2 in the conference and 12-6 overall.

The Komets only losses have been to Class 3A power Champlin Park and Class 1A top ranked Minneota.
