Last year, the Ohio Valley Giant Pumpkin Growers in Ohio broke the world record for the largest pumpkins. Their average weight of the pumpkins grown was 1,825 pounds!

But this year that record was crushed by the St. Croix Growers' Association at the Stillwater Harvest Fest that happened this past Saturday. Their average pumpkin's weight: 1,912 pounds. Dang!

The biggest pumpkin that was submitted, according to the Stillwater Harvest Fest Facebook post, was grown by Pete Midthun and weighed in at a whopping 2,091 pounds. Oh, and he won a $5,000 prize because of it!

What I think the best part of the whole thing is what happened to the largest pumpkin after it was weighed. President of the St. Croix Growers' Association, Joe Ailts, told the Pioneer Press that “'one grower offers his pumpkin to be sacrificed on the altar of the drop.'" And this year that grower was Pete Midthun. So a crane took this 2,091-pound pumpkin and dropped it from 100 feet in the air! That would be something to see!

Joe also told the Pioneer Press that he thinks the reason they beat the record is because of "great summer growing weather, more growers participating, and Stillwater’s good reputation drawing them in."
