Yesterday's Power 96 Cool One came from a band that was formed by three friends that met, while they attended high school, when their fathers were stationed at a U.S. Air Force base near London. Out of that friendship came the band America, a name they chose so they wouldn't be confused with other British bands that were trying to sound American.

I pulled yesterday's Cool One from their second studio album, Homecoming, which was released in 1972 and reached to No. 9 on the U.S. Billboard 200 on the strength of three singles, "Only in Your Heart" which charted at No. 62 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, "Don't Cross the River" at No. 35 and yesterday's track "Ventura Highway" which topped out at No. 8.

America continues to record, they released Lost and Found in May of this year, and tour to this day and will be performing at a free show at Mayo Park on Sunday August 23 at 7PM. My advice to you is get there early, I hear these free Down By The Riverside concerts are usually packed.

Join me for the next edition of the Power 96 Cool One at 4:35PM today, brought to you by Kelly's Auto Parts, on Power 96.
