Although the Mayo Express Care clinic in Faribault's Crossroads building off Lyndale Avenue has been open for business since Jan. 8, the health providers celebrated their grand opening Friday, June 12, with many of the city's Chamber members in attendance.

Offering an Express Care walk-in clinic, occupational medicine services and a sleep clinic, the facility aims to meet the needs of area employers and residents. It boasts a core staff of about 10, said Jill Fauchald, regional manager for occupational care.

The Express Clinic follows a retail clinic model, similar to options found in CVS, Walgreens and Target stores, said Cooper Rendon, occupational medicine.

Express Clinic staff offer treatment of minor illnesses such as tests for strep throat or influenza, pregnancy tests, and vaccines for people 12 or older, nurse practitioner Michelle Blankenship said.

Rendon said the occupational medicine department treats workplace injuries and illnesses, as well as conducts pre-employment physicals and fitness-for-duty exams. Other services include OSHA surveillance and dealing with exposure to pathogens.

Dr. Kodjo Bossou, who practices occupational medicine in Red Wing, said Mayo is "happy to be here. Faribault is a wonderful community to be a part of."

After speeches by Dr. Brian Bunkers, CEO of Mayo Clinic Health System in Faribault and Owatonna, and Dr. David Agerter, CEO of the southeast Minnesota region, Michelle Blankenship and Cooper Rendon cut the ribbon to formally open the clinic.

The Occupational Medicine hours are 8AM to 5PM Monday-Thursday and 8AM to noon Friday. The Express Care clinic is open from 3-7:30PM Monday-Friday and 9AM to 1PM Saturday-Sunday. The sleep clinic offers hours on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.
